The "Alchemical Dragon" piece is inspired by the alchemical manuscript "The Compound of Alchemy" written by the English alchemist Sir George Ripley in the 15th century.
The artwork represents the philosopher's stone, which takes the form of three spheres linked together – the black, white, and red stones – presented within a sun, the symbol of gold, and beneath a moon, the symbol of silver. The whole is held aloft by the mouth of a dragon with a coiled tail.
Wounded in the side, this fantastical creature, known as the “Arabian Serpent,” sprinkles its blood on a winged, transparent orb on the surface of which float three small globes of alchemical colors.
This artwork embodies the Magnum Opus : a central alchemical process of transmuting base materials into the Philosopher's Stone symbolizing spiritual enlightenment, soul purification, and the union of opposites.
